Are women slaves forever?

Oppression on women still goes on, even in this new era, where working women and professionals contribute as much as the opposite gender. The sheer discrimination and inequity faced by this class of people exist even in the implementation of law and order by the people in power or the authority. Reading how the King of Arab ‘pardons’ a rape victim makes me wonder. How long we have to bear the blame for the wrong-doings of the opposite gender. Why are the women made to wear ‘decent’ and ‘covered’ cloths (as ordered by the Kelantan government) to stop the male counterpart from lusting over us? How about making them to wear blinds, like how the horses are made wear during early times, so that they would stick straight to their path and also make them close their eyes every time they come upon a woman, if they can’t handle their sexual desires that badly. Why should the woman be blamed for everything done to her? Why doesn’t the cabinet formulate an enactment or bill, which protects the women from the male instead of vice versa? (For in my opinion, asking us to cover up is like protecting the male from being tempted to rape while it should be the other way around).
Excluding sexual offenders from benefiting from the parole system is definitely a good decision. The Prison (Amendment) Bill 2007 tabled at the parliament by Deputy Internal Security Minister, Datuk Fu Ah Kiow was added a new section, 46A which allows a prison inmate serving a minimum one year prison term to be eligible for a parole after he or she served half of their prison term. However, the fact whether the inmate has been behaving well or had attended a rehabilitation program will not be taken into account.
When Karl Marx talked about class and oppression, he mentioned the struggle of the proletariat (the working class people) in a society controlled by people with the means of production, first by the aristocrats or the elites and later by the intellectuals (bourgeoisie). The cultural imperialism and control over the norm (folkway) and mores, made it impossible for social mobility, even when the Industrial Revolution occurred, and the bourgeoisies promised the civilians of equal opportunity and equal right, the fact remained where there remain a new ruling class which dominates the society, only this time it was the social bloc, a merge between the elites and the bourgeoisie. The same situation could be interpreted into our society, where the promise to uphold the women into a respectable position beside the men, remains a promise. From where we stand now, where we must behave, in order to be seen and heard, the hope to be free from domination remains a hope.
